Volunteer with Us

Physician Volunteers

The Westside Free clinic graciously relies on the help of volunteer physicians to supervise and educate both medical and premedical students. We welcome all physicians from the community who would like to volunteer their time with us – your time and effort are greatly appreciated.

If you are a physician and would like to volunteer with us, please email westsidefreeclinic@gmail.com!

Student Volunteers

Medical and premedical students are welcome to sign up through their perspective organizations for shifts at the Westside Free Clinic!

We provide medical student volunteers a chance to improve their clinical skills, work closely with practicing EM and FM attendings, practice their presentation skills, and gain leadership experience through managing the clinic.

Clinic Flow

Registration

Patients will need to register or sign up for a time to be seen in the clinic

Triage and Vitals

Premedical students will assist patients in obtaining vitals and prepare the patient for a patient room.

Medical Students: History and Physical

Medical students are able to perform a full history and physical examination on the patient to develop their professional skills.

Attending Physician Visit

Medical students will present their H&P and their findings to the attending physician. The whole team will then go see the patient together.

Labs, Prescriptions, and Referrals

All necessary services will be rendered under the attending physician’s orders.
Patients needing more specialized care can be referred to UMC/TTUHSC for further treatment. The WFC provides referral for cancer prevention screenings, such as pap smears, and serves as a liaison/location for different collaborations with other existing services.

Social Worker and Mental Health Visits

Under the supervision of a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, social work students from The University of Texas at El Paso and El Paso Community College are able to help patients to find resources: appropriate financial services, building sustainable support networks, and providing crisis intervention. Mental health visits can also be scheduled during this time.
